Fall Is Almost Here — And Orange County Does It Right
One of the things I love most about helping families find homes in Orange County is showing them everything this region offers beyond the real estate listings. As September arrives, the OC transforms into a fall wonderland — and nowhere is that more obvious than at the area's pumpkin patches. Whether you're a longtime resident or just moved here, here's my guide to the best pumpkin patches in Orange County for 2026.
As a local agent, I can tell you: families often tell me that access to seasonal activities and community events is a big part of why they choose specific neighborhoods in OC. Fall pumpkin patches are a perfect example of the lifestyle that makes this area so special.
Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch (Orange)
This is one of my personal favorites and hands-down one of the most beloved pumpkin patches in all of Southern California. Nestled inside Irvine Regional Park, the Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch runs from September 12 through October 31, 2026, with weekday hours of 10 AM to 6 PM.
What to Expect
The activities here are extensive — train rides, hayrides, fishing, moon bounces, face painting, panning for gold, John Deere racers, pumpkin ring toss, cookie decorating, carnival games, and even mini diggers for the little ones. Activity tickets are $8 each, or you can grab a book of 15 tickets for $100. Park entrance is $3 per vehicle on weekdays, $5 on weekends, and $7 on holidays.
One key tip: reservations are required on weekends in October — book online starting September 9th. This patch fills up fast, especially on fall Saturdays. If you live in the Orange, Villa Park, or Anaheim Hills area, this is practically in your backyard.
Pumpkin City's Pumpkin Farm (Laguna Hills)
Located at 24203 Avenida De La Carlota in Laguna Hills, Pumpkin City is one of the largest and most festive pumpkin destinations in South Orange County. Open October 1 through October 31, 2026, with hours of Monday–Thursday 12:30 PM–9 PM and Friday–Sunday 10 AM–10 PM.
Pricing and What's Inside
- Free admission: Monday–Friday before 4 PM — great for weekday outings
- Evening/weekend admission: $10 for ages 13 and up, $8 for children under 12
- Halloween night: Free admission all day on October 31
Beyond pumpkins, Pumpkin City delivers a full festival atmosphere with rides, games, food vendors, live entertainment, and Oktoberfest-themed events in the evenings. The free parking is a major plus — something you won't find everywhere in OC. If you're living in Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, or Aliso Viejo, this is the go-to spot.
Roger's Gardens — The Upscale Experience (Corona del Mar)
If you want something a little more refined with your fall foliage, Roger's Gardens at 2301 San Joaquin Hills Road in Corona del Mar is in a category of its own. This legendary Newport Beach-area garden center draws over 100,000 visitors each September and October for its Mystical Pumpkin Patch.
What Makes It Special
Roger's Gardens offers heirloom pumpkins in an extraordinary variety — unique colors, shapes, and sizes that go far beyond the standard orange jack-o-lantern. The aesthetic here is elevated: think curated autumn tablescapes, artisan decor, and a shopping experience that doubles as fall inspiration. It's not a traditional farm patch, but it's an OC institution worth visiting.
They also offer a Pumpkinscaping service — choose a curated pumpkin palette and their team will deliver and style it at your home. Delivery dates run September 21 through October 9, 2026. For homeowners in Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, and the surrounding luxury communities, this is a perfect way to get that seasonal curb appeal effortlessly.
Tanaka Farms (Irvine)
For families who want the real farm-to-fall experience, Tanaka Farms at 5380¾ University Drive in Irvine is one of the only actual working farms with a genuine pumpkin patch remaining in Orange County. The patch opens September 13 through October 31, 2026.
The Real Deal
What sets Tanaka Farms apart is authenticity. Kids can walk through actual pumpkin fields, take wagon rides, do arts and crafts, and experience a pumpkin cannon — a crowd favorite every year. Because Tanaka is a real working farm, the experience is educational as well as fun. If you've just moved to Irvine and are looking for ways to get connected to community life, this is one of those classic traditions that local families return to year after year.
Zoomars Pumpkin Patch (San Juan Capistrano)
Down in the historic Los Rios district of San Juan Capistrano, Zoomars offers a charming pumpkin patch experience at 31791 Los Rios Street. The patch typically runs from late September through October 31st, set against the backdrop of one of California's oldest neighborhoods — cobblestone streets, historic adobes, and all.
A Unique Setting
Zoomars isn't just about pumpkins — it's also a small petting zoo year-round. The combination of animals, seasonal pumpkins, and the historic ambiance of Los Rios Street makes it a particularly memorable outing. Families living in San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point, or San Clemente will find this one of the most convenient and charming options in South OC.
Tips for Making the Most of Pumpkin Patch Season in OC
- Go on a weekday: Weekday visits are less crowded and often cheaper — Pumpkin City is even free before 4 PM on weekdays
- Book ahead: Irvine Park Railroad requires weekend reservations in October — don't wait until the last minute
- Arrive early: Most patches are busiest between 11 AM and 3 PM on weekends; arriving at opening or after 4 PM is the sweet spot
- Dress in layers: OC evenings in October can be cool, especially near the coast — bring a jacket for the kids
- Combine with dinner: Many patches are near great restaurants; make a full evening of it in Laguna Hills, San Juan Capistrano, or Newport Beach
Why This Matters for Home Buyers and Sellers
I bring this up with my buyer clients all the time: the lifestyle around a home matters just as much as the home itself. When families ask me about neighborhoods in Orange County, they're not just asking about square footage and school ratings — they want to know what their Saturdays will feel like. Pumpkin patches, farmers markets, beach access, trail systems — these are all part of what makes a community feel like home.
If you're considering a move to Irvine, Laguna Hills, Newport Beach, or any other part of Orange County, I'd love to show you not just the homes available, but the neighborhoods and the seasonal rhythms that make each community unique. Fall is a beautiful time to explore — and often a smart time to buy, when competition is typically lower than the spring rush.
