Why Orange County Is a Night Market Paradise
One of the things I love most about representing clients in Orange County is how the community spirit comes alive after dark. I've been showing homes here for years, and one thing buyers always notice — whether they're relocating from Los Angeles or moving up from a condo — is how much life these neighborhoods have. Night markets are a big part of that. From massive Asian food festivals with 200+ vendors to weekly street fairs on the beach, OC has something going on nearly every night of the week.
I put this guide together to share my favorites with clients, friends, and anyone who's curious about what makes Orange County such a great place to live. And yes — if you're thinking about buying in one of these cities, proximity to this kind of vibrant community life absolutely factors into long-term home values and quality of life.
626 Night Market at OC Fair and Event Center (Costa Mesa)
If you've never been to the 626 Night Market, put it at the top of your list. This is the original Asian-American night market in the United States, and it has grown into something truly spectacular. When it comes to OC, the event is held at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa — a massive venue that can actually hold the 200+ booths this event draws.
What to Expect
The 2026 OC edition ran May 29–31 (Friday through Sunday, 3–11 p.m.), but the 626 Night Market travels to multiple Southern California locations throughout the year, so keep an eye on their schedule for additional dates. General admission is just $6 online, and kids 5 and under are free.
- Food: The food lineup is the main draw. Think scallop skewers, mochi donuts, takoyaki, rolled ice cream, braised beef rice bowls, pandan waffles, and dozens of fusion concepts you won't find anywhere else.
- Merchandise: Artists, jewelry makers, anime and K-pop merchandise, and handmade crafts fill hundreds of vendor tents.
- Entertainment: Live concerts, DJ sets, and performers run throughout the event on multiple stages.
- Crowd: This draws people from across Southern California, so arrive early or expect to wait. Parking fills up fast — rideshare is your friend.
Costa Mesa itself is one of my favorite neighborhoods to recommend for buyers who want that urban-creative vibe without the LA price tag. Home prices here have held steady, with median single-family home prices around the $1.3–1.5 million range as of mid-2026. The event center, South Coast Plaza, and easy freeway access make Costa Mesa a perennially strong market.
Little Saigon Night Market (Westminster)
If I had to pick one night market to take a client who's never experienced Vietnamese street food culture, it would be the Little Saigon Night Market at Asian Garden Mall in Westminster. This one runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from June 19 through August 9, with hours from 7 to 11 p.m. — and it is completely free to attend.
What to Expect
The Asian Garden Mall (9200 Bolsa Ave., Westminster) sets up its front parking lot with roughly 50 vendors and becomes one of the most authentic food street markets in all of Southern California. This isn't a generic food festival — it's deeply rooted in Vietnamese-American culture, and that specificity is what makes it so special.
- Food highlights: Beyond the familiar pho and banh mi, vendors here specialize in pennywort drinks, pandan roll cakes, garlic beef noodles, freshly made boba variations you won't see at a chain, and grilled corn slathered in butter and chili.
- Live music: Vietnamese pop and traditional music performances create an atmosphere unlike anything else in the county.
- Free parking: Yes, parking is free. A small miracle in OC.
Westminster and the greater Little Saigon area represent one of OC's most culturally rich communities. From a real estate perspective, this area offers some of the most competitive price points in the county for buyers seeking more square footage, with many single-family homes in the $800K–$1.1M range. I've helped several clients discover Westminster as an overlooked gem — the restaurants alone make it worth serious consideration.
Surf City Nights (Huntington Beach)
Here's the one that makes Huntington Beach locals never want to leave: Surf City Nights runs every single Tuesday, year-round, on Main Street between Orange Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. Hours are 4:30–8:30 p.m., and admission is completely free.
What to Expect
Surf City Nights is less of a night market and more of a weekly street fair and farmers market rolled into one — and it has been a beloved community institution for years. Over 100 merchants and vendors set up along Main Street, creating a festive mid-week tradition that's unique to Huntington Beach.
- Certified Farmers Market: Local produce, fresh flowers, and specialty food items on Walnut Avenue.
- Food court: International food vendors from Mexican and Thai to classic American barbecue.
- Crafts: Original handmade artisan goods, jewelry, and gifts.
- Live entertainment: Local musicians perform throughout the evening.
- Kid-friendly: The vibe is relaxed and family-friendly — you'll see everyone from stroller parents to retirees.
In my experience, clients who visit Huntington Beach for Surf City Nights often start seriously looking at homes there by the following weekend. There is something about walking those blocks with a fish taco and feeling the ocean breeze that makes the decision very easy. The HB market has remained competitive, with a strong demand base driven by lifestyle buyers who prioritize beach proximity.
Melon Moon Market at Tanaka Farms (Irvine)
For a slightly different vibe — more artisan boutique, less street food festival — the Melon Moon Market at Tanaka Farms runs on select Fridays in Irvine. The 2026 summer run went July 17 through August 21. This one skews toward handmade goods: ceramics, paper crafts, jewelry, local art prints, and small-batch food products.
Tanaka Farms itself is a working farm in Irvine that has operated for generations, and there's something grounding about browsing beautiful handmade goods surrounded by actual crops. It's popular with families and a great option if you want a slightly quieter night out with quality local vendors.
Tustin Sunset Market (Old Town Tustin)
Old Town Tustin is one of my favorite corners of Orange County — a walkable, historic district with genuinely great restaurants and a strong local identity. The Tustin Sunset Market runs every third Thursday from May through September, drawing food trucks, local farmers market vendors, and live music to the charming streets of Old Town.
If you haven't explored Old Town Tustin, put it on your list. The market nights are a perfect introduction. The surrounding neighborhoods — with their mix of historic homes, newer builds, and excellent Tustin Unified schools — make this one of the more well-rounded cities in OC for families. Home prices are generally more accessible than nearby Irvine, which I tell clients who want Irvine-quality schools without Irvine prices.
Night Markets and Neighborhood Value
I bring up night markets in client conversations more than you might expect. Here's why: walkable community events are one of the strongest signals of neighborhood vitality. Cities with active street life, regular markets, and public gathering spaces tend to have stronger long-term home values, lower vacancy rates, and more engaged local governments investing in infrastructure.
When I'm helping buyers evaluate a neighborhood, I always ask: Is there somewhere you can walk to on a Tuesday night and run into your neighbors? In OC, the answer is yes in more places than people realize — and night markets are a big part of that story.
