Pageant of the Masters: Laguna Beach's Crown Jewel
If there's one event that defines Orange County culture, it's the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. Running nightly through September 4, 2026 (performances begin at 8:30 p.m.), this legendary outdoor show features real people posed as living recreations of famous paintings and sculptures. The 2026 theme is "The Greatest of All Time," spotlighting masterworks by Michelangelo, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Frida Kahlo, and Norman Rockwell.
The Irvine Bowl amphitheater seats about 2,900 guests under the open sky, and the 90-minute show is genuinely jaw-dropping — especially if you've never seen it before. Tickets sell out well in advance, so book early at PageantTickets.com.

August hours run Sunday through Thursday 11am-8pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm. A few free-admission days are built into the schedule for neighboring county residents: Orange County residents receive free entry every Sunday, while specific August Sundays offer free admission to visitors from LA County (August 9), San Diego County (August 16), and Riverside/San Bernardino County (August 23).
The festival also features three live music stages and complimentary art classes throughout the day — making it a full afternoon for families or a relaxed date night.
OC Fair: Final Weeks Through August 16
If you haven't made it to the Orange County Fair yet, you have until August 16 to catch it at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. One of the best-kept secrets in Orange County is the free summer concert series hosted by OC Parks every Thursday evening through September 3, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. Venues rotate between Mason Regional Park (Irvine), Irvine Regional Park (Orange), Craig Regional Park (Fullerton), Mile Square Regional Park (Fountain Valley), and Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach (Dana Point).
These aren't small affairs — they're full productions with local and regional bands covering everything from classic rock to Latin, country, and R&B. Bring a blanket, grab food from a nearby vendor, and enjoy a free evening under the stars. No tickets, no crowds, no stress.
OC Parks Outdoor Movies
Running alongside the concert series, OC Parks also offers free outdoor movie screenings every Friday night through August 28 at parks including Carbon Canyon Regional Park, Yorba Regional Park, Laguna Niguel Regional Park, and Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach. Local City Events Worth Knowing
August is busy at the city level too. A few highlights:
- Brea Fest (August 7): Brea's annual community festival with live music, local vendors, and activities for families. Brea's downtown district has developed significantly over the past decade and these events reflect a vibrant, walkable city center.
- Fiesta Music Festival in San Clemente (August 8): San Clemente's oceanfront community vibe shines at this annual celebration of live music, food, and local culture along the waterfront.
- Dana Point Classic Car Show (August 23): Hundreds of classic and custom cars line Del Prado Avenue in Dana Point's walkable town center. A great excuse to stroll through one of OC's most underrated coastal cities.
