Why OC Summers Are Unlike Anywhere Else
Every time I take clients on a tour of Orange County, the conversation eventually drifts from square footage to something bigger: what does life here actually feel like? And summer is when that question answers itself. From beachside festivals in Laguna Beach to massive concerts at Irvine's Great Park, the sheer density of world-class events packed into June, July, August, and September is one of the best-kept secrets about why so many people fall in love with this place — and decide to plant roots here.
I've lived and worked in OC for years, and the summer calendar still surprises me. Here's my local guide to the events worth planning around this season, whether you're already a homeowner here or thinking about making the move.
The OC Fair: Costa Mesa's Greatest Summer Tradition
If you've never been to the Orange County Fair, put it at the top of your list. Running from July 17 through August 16, 2026 at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, this is a true Southern California institution. The theme this year is Your Adventure Awaits, and with over 23 days of programming, there's no shortage of things to see and do.
I tell my clients with kids that the Fair alone is worth the price of living in Costa Mesa or nearby neighborhoods — it's a short drive or bike ride from much of central Orange County, and the Pacific Amphitheatre concert series that runs alongside it regularly draws national headliners. The Pageant of the Masters is a uniquely Southern California experience: live actors recreate famous works of art with uncanny precision, posed in elaborate tableaux on an outdoor stage while a narrator and live orchestra bring each piece to life. This year's production is titled The Greatest of All Time, and performances run nightly at 8:30 PM. In my experience, this event consistently impresses even the most skeptical visitors. It's equal parts theatrical and surreal, and it happens against the backdrop of Laguna Beach canyon — one of the most beautiful settings in California.
The surrounding Festival of Arts grounds are also worth exploring in their own right, with original artworks for sale from juried Southern California artists. If you've been considering artwork for a new home, this is genuinely a great place to find something meaningful.

The Daisy Chain Fields Festival, debuting on August 29, 2026, is making national headlines. Founded by Olivia Rodrigo and produced by C3 Presents, the festival features an all-female-led lineup including Chappell Roan, Bikini Kill, Mitski, Garbage, and special guests Karen O, Sarah McLachlan, and Stevie Nicks. This is the kind of event that sells out months in advance and creates buzz well beyond Orange County — it's exactly the sort of cultural moment that makes Irvine feel like a major city.
Beyond Daisy Chain Fields, the Great Park Live summer schedule includes Pacific Symphony's SummerFest on July 4 and July 25, Lee Brice Live in Concert on July 26, and the Raised on Radio Tour on July 12. Whether your taste runs to classical, country, or indie rock, there's something on the calendar for you.

One of the things I love most about OC is how many cities invest in free summer programming for their residents. This is a quality-of-life detail that doesn't show up in listing photos but matters enormously to families.
Cities like Mission Viejo, Los Alamitos, and dozens of others host free outdoor concert series throughout the summer months. Mission Viejo's Concerts on the Green starts June 12; Los Alamitos Concerts in the Park kicks off June 11. These aren't small-scale events — they draw hundreds of families spreading out on the grass on warm weekday evenings with food trucks, kids running around, and live bands playing everything from classic rock to Latin pop.
In my experience showing homes across OC, clients who attend one of these events often come back with a completely different sense of what a neighborhood feels like. There's a difference between a city that has a park and a city that uses its park. Orange County cities tend to fall into the second category.
The Ohana Festival in Dana Point: A September Highlight
Just as summer winds down, Dana Point delivers one of the premier outdoor music festivals on the West Coast. The Ohana Festival returns September 25–27, 2026, with a lineup that includes Pearl Jam, Pixies, Billy Idol, and Maná among others, set against the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Doheny State Beach.
I've seen clients tour properties in Dana Point and Laguna Niguel purely because they discovered Ohana Festival and wanted to live close enough to walk or bike to it. That's not an exaggeration.
